Installing a Custom Plate on Your Tesla
Tesla's Paint Shop lets you add a license plate to the vehicle visualization shown on the Tesla in-car display. Here's how to get a plate you designed here (or from anywhere else) onto the car.
What you need
Any Model 3, Y, S, X, or Cybertruck running an Intel Atom or AMD Ryzen infotainment computer.
420×200 px for standard plates (420×100 px for narrow European-style plates), saved as a PNG under 500 KB.
The USB drive in your vehicle's glovebox. This is the same one Tesla Sentry Mode clips go on.
Setup steps

Design your plate
Build your design with our plate generator and export it at the Tesla-compatible resolution. We recommend adding your text directly into the image, as our generator uses the correct font as the real plates. However, you can also export a blank plate image and set the text and color later from the car's touchscreen.

Copy it to a USB drive
Plug the Tesla USB drive found in your vehicle's glovebox into a computer and create a folder in its root named exactly
LicensePlate, capitalization and spelling matter. Drop your PNG (or up to ten of them) inside, then safely eject the drive. - 3
Plug it into the glovebox port
Reinsert the drive into the USB port inside your Tesla's glovebox.

Apply it from Toybox
On the center touchscreen, open Toybox → Paint Shop → Customize, then switch to the License Plate tab. Your uploaded images appear under the Background sub-tab. If you baked the text into the image, switch to the Number sub-tab and clear any text (if any) from there, otherwise insert your desired text there and pick a color for it.
All Set!
Once it's applied in Paint Shop, the custom plate will appear on various areas on your Tesla's screen(s). You can especially see it on the main screen when the vehicle is parked. It is also visible while driving on the FSD visualizations. Unfortunately, for now, it does not show up on the Tesla mobile app, but we are sure that is coming soon!
TROUBLESHOOTING - If a plate doesn't show in ToyBox, double-check the folder name. It must be named exactly LicensePlate, making sure the capitalization and spelling are correct. If you did not download the image using our generator, also ensure it is in the correct file format (PNG) and that the image is under 500 KB.
